Since 1988, Blackpool kennels has been breeding, training and showing English type Golden Retrievers. ******We have bred well over ten Champions and trained many obedience titled dogs. We are a small kennel dedicated to the improvement and advancement of the English type Golden Retrievers in Canada. Since we first laid eyes on this most ingratiating of breeds, we had to have one. Nothing compares to the soft dark eyes of the true English Golden. So we set out to breed the best family dogs possible. To do this they had to live with us not in kennels. We found this would be the best way for us to truly know their temperaments. We also decided too choose our lines carefully and stayed away from hip, heart and cancer problems in the breed. We wanted only healthy dogs that would live a long,long healthy life and pass these same traits to their progeny.
We continued to educate ourselves by attending seminars on temperament, structure and health issues. We have continued to educate ourselves by attending yearly seminars planned like: "Breed To Succeed" given by renown author Patricia Craige Trotter (US), and " The Iams Dog Breeder Symposium on: Breeding Better Dogs" in Missisauga with guest speaker: Dr. Carmen Battaglia (Evaluating structure), Dr. Robert Van Hutchison(Canine reproduction), Dr. Martin Coffman DVM (Health/Genetics) and Mr. Stefan Massimino (Nutrition expert). All this newly acquired knowledge will be apply to improve our wonderful Goldens.
We also train and show all our own dogs. Many of our dogs have titles such as conformation champion , obedience, agility, CGC, and St John certifications. The ones we are most proud of, are the ones that dedicate their lives to pleasing their humans.
